is the stomach (actual stomach area, not low, like intestines) a likely place for cancer recurrence?

i've had breast cancer twice.  once with ductal carcinoma, and one round of lobular.  i have suddenly started having severe stomach pain.  it seems to come and go.  it is actually in the stomach -- not the lower intestine area.  it's almost like being hit in the stomach kind of pain.  i always worry of a cancer recurrence in some other area of my body.

Hi Sher,

If you think there is a possibility that there is a problem, especially given your medical history with cancer, you should see your doctor. While online sites are great places to get the information you need to ask all the right questions, they can not take the place of your doctor's sound medical advice and care.

There are cancers associated with acid reflux that can be in the esophagus and stomach. I am not sure your symptoms are indicators. You can check your symptoms in the symptoms database here. You might also want to check our site about Cancer. It's at www.healthcentral.com/cancercenter/. Specifically there is a section about gastric cancer here.

There is also a great section about breast cancer including pictures and information here. I know you are an expert by now having had breast cancer twice, but it might be good to read in case there is something in this information that applies to what you are experiencing now.

Hope you find something that helps. Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Though stomach metastases (spread of cancer outside the original location) do occur with breast cancer, they are not common.  The symptoms you are having are more likely to be due to more common disorders, such as reflux or even ulcers.  You don't mention anything regarding changes in stool color or caliber, which would be important in trying to get better insight.  These are things to take note of and share with your doctor.  You might need an endoscopy to confirm a diagnosis.
