Q: Barrett's Syndrome-Is it true that this incurable and irreversible?

Is there nothing I can do to keep this from progressing to esophageal cancer?  I am currently taking omeprazole, and it does not seem to be doing the trick.  I have sub diaphragm pain and cramping, nausea, and on 2 occasions, rather forceful vomiting.  I do need to lose weight.  I lost half of what I needed to lose in less than a year simply because I was nauseated all the time (70 lbs.)  I currently weigh 210#.  This whole thing has caused great problems in my life, in great part since I no longer have clothes I can fit and I cannot afford to replace them!  Have you any advice or words of comfort for me?

The good news is that you now know you have Barrett's esophagus and can be monitored. The even better news is that while Barrett's can lead to esophageal cancer it only does so in a minority of cases.

It's important to get the reflux under control and to keep the weight down as this will certainly help. It's also vital to follow up with your doctors on the schedule they recommend.
