Q: Acid Reflux - Problem is sleeping and constant coughing

Acid Reflux is changing my life and its not for the good. I take Pantoprazole. I find my self coughing all the time.  I dread trying to get to sleep at night.  I sleep on 3 pillows in a recliner most nights.  My throat feels like I can not swallow some times.  I do have paniac attacks some nights.  What can I do?  I'm dieting and walking at night but still sleepless nights.  By the way i'm 47 does any one have any suggestions to help me get better.  I've been to an allergist. 2 M.Ds.

Hello Linda,

It can take some time to get a diagnosis and treatment plan in place. Don't give up. Sometimes reflux occurs with another health condition. It may take some time and effort to find out what is driving the symptoms. It might help to get a referral to a Gastroenterologist or a pulmonologist. A pulmonologist will look at your breathing issues and sleep issues. While reflux treatment may not make all of the symptoms go away, you should be able to get some sleep at night.

Let me know what you find out.
