Q: Long term use of nexium

Is there any problems with being on Nexium long term.  I have GERD and have had a stomach ulcer.  The doc has taken me off the Nexium after 2 months and put me on Antepsin but after a few days my heart burn has come back.  He says that there is a possibility that longer use will increase the chances of further GERD prblems in the future.

Do you have any comments?

Hi there,

I was on Nexium for approx 2yrs and various other medication for 3yrs prior to that. I was always told by my Doctor that there were no long term affects, although i must say i have since had the operation and it has made such a difference, if your Doctor is offering you the chance to have this operation then i would reccomend you take it.

Thanks for your reply.  I am not sure what your surgery was?  Was it for a Hiatus Hernia?

Sorry im new to this... Yes it was for a hiatus hernia, the recovery was longer than expected but it is worthwhile in the end, its been 6months now since i had the surgery

and its great to finally be off medication after 5yrs

Are your symptons due to a hiatus hernia?
