Q: I have recently started a perscription of Prilosec 40 mg. Seems to be helping my diagnosis of Gerd/

Although I have developed some abdominal discomort and am wondering if this is a side effect to the medication. I am thinking I should call the Doctor and ask for a lesser mg. medication.

It's definitely good to check in with the doctor to let him know both the good and bad effects you are having from the medication. He may either want to decrease your dosage like you are thinking or he may want you to try one of the other Proton Pump Inhibitors. You are right that abdominal discomfort is a common side effect of PPIs and for some reason some people can take one but not another. For example, my Mom can take Prevacid but not Prilosec, I can take either.
