Q: Is it possible to loose your voice because of acidr eflux ?

Hello,  I am 26 years old and was diagnosed with gastritis and also am taking acid reducer pills. Two days ago i almost lost my voice and had a feeling that i might be getting a cold. I went to the doctor today and after all the tests i was told that i don't have a cold or allergy, it is an acid that irritate my throat. Is it possible? i don't smoke and don't drink.  Thank you, Julia NY

Yes, it is possible. In fact, I vaguely remember there being a Pop Star a few years back who had to stop touring briefly due to voice issues related to reflux.

Julia - I had the same symptoms and went to an ENT specialist who right away diagnosed me with a polyp on my vocal cords causing my voice hoarseness and "tiredness."  Doc thought the polyp was the result of severe acid reflux.  Removed the polyp (benign thank goodness) during outpatient surgery and am on the road to recovery.  Have to very careful of my diet though.
