I wonder why the doctor wants to wean your son off of the medication even though he is still having symptoms. Maybe he wants to see if there is any change off medication. If your son is the same off medication, that info can be very useful in planning treatment. On the other hand, if the symptoms worsen off the medication, that would also be helpful info for the doctor.

It might be useful to keep a symtoms diary while your son is weaned off the medication and for a few weeks after.

Non medication treatments include: eating small, frequent meals, avoiding foods that trigger symptoms, elevating the head while sleeping and losing weight if overweight.
