I've cut back on my Nexium to every other day. Why is my reflux worse than before I started it?

I was taking Nexium once a day for 6 months.  It worked great.  My doctor cut me back to one pill every other day.  My reflux is worse now than before I started taking Nexium.  Why is my reflux worse now?  Will I have to take Nexium forever?

I have been taking Nexium, Prevacid and acifex as my insurance allows with the tiers they have for the past 5+ years, a pill in the morningbefore breakfast, my family Dr and my Gasto;egist, never took me off it, because it is working, however if i can loose 10lbs i can manage without. I am not obese, but I am about 15lbs over, and no matter what I try i cannot lose any. As far as i remember i have no problem taking this medine for thr rest of my life, NO REFLUX thats what really counts. Get your gastreologist to run the pipes down your throat it is a medical procedure, he may find the problem.

Hope you feel better and get back on the NEXIUM, by the way I take the 40mg tablets.

Hi Peggy

Are u still having the issue? Or was it only an initial flareup of stopping the meds and making it alternate days? This can sometimes happen. How is your diet and lifestyle changes? When you are trying to taper medication, you would need to take extra care on your diet and lifestyle so as not to get back on the drug again.

Take care and good luck.

Keep us posted how you are doing.

Thanks
