Does having asthma and taking ambien create GERD

I have had bad asthma and allergies since i was born. For a few months i have been prescribed to Zolpidem (substituted for Ambien; a sleeping aid). I have not had any problems, however recently my allergies have been bad, triggering my asthma. I also just got a new prescription from a different pharmacist of Zolpidem. As i have been taking the new prescription every night before I go to bed, I either feel very nauseous or feel an acidy feeling in my esophagus causing me to throw up every night. I also have been having sharp pains in my abdomen.

Does anyone know what is wrong with me???

I am on Ambien for the past few months and having simular

issues, but not throwing up. I am experiencing discomfort

in the abdomen and went to the doctor today. The doctor

is going to run a gallbladder test on Monday.

Let's keep each other informed...LGR

I've had mild acid reflux for several years now.  But I've also had what they referred to as cough-asthma for the same time.  Just recently the doctors have put the two together.  The whole time I've been taking ambien but the doctors made no connection there.  But over the last two nights I took more ambien (zolpidem - the generic for ambien actually) than I normall do.  My acid reflux is so bad tonight that I've been thinking hard about any changes in my diet.  When I couldn't think of anything else other than the ambien, I just googled it to find out if anyone else had experienced anything similar.  I found many people here, sharing their experiences: http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/archives/pharmacy_qa/ambien_can_cause_indigestion_.php.  So I'm going to quit taking ambien and see what happens.  Good luck with your asthma, etc.

zolpiderm is the generic version of ambien and unfortunaltey, to me, most generic drugs pale in comparison to the brand names. I had acid reflux prior to taking ambien. The brand name ambien makes it bad but the zolpiderm makes even worse.

I stopped metamucal too since I finally read about a side effect that it has which mimics acid reflux symptoms too.

I am trying to stop the ambien but do nto have a good substitute- may try lunesta? but it give mettalic taste and who knows, may do acid relux stuff too -

may go for Esoph exam too soon
