Acid reflux or heartburn is the sensation that occurs when acid from the stomach and intestine "backflow" into the esophagus.  This can be caused by a painful sensation in the mid-chest area and is the most common cause of non-cardiac chest pain.  Pain between the shoulder blades would be uncommon, but can occur.  Since it is a more unusual location, other problems should be ruled out and/or a treatment trial with medication for acid reflux may be tried to see if there is a good response.

Hi D. Hidalgo,

While online sources are great for getting information to ask all the right questions, no online resource can take the place of your doctor's care and advice. You should see a doctor to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong causing the chest pain. Heart conditions can mask themselves as acid reflux and vice versa. Better to be safe.

Dr Todd Eisner advises to have chest pain checked out. You can read the entire sharepost here.

While pain between the shoulder blades and mid chest bone area can be a typical symptom of some acid reflux it is best to have it checked by your doctor. You can read more about the symptoms of acid reflux here in the symptoms database.

Take care and let us know how you are doing!
