Acid
reflux or heartburn is the sensation that occurs when acid from the stomach and
intestine "backflow" into the esophagus.
This can be caused by a painful sensation in the mid-chest area and is
the most common cause of non-cardiac chest pain. Pain between the shoulder blades would be
uncommon, but can occur. Since it is a
more unusual location, other problems should be ruled out and/or a treatment
trial with medication for acid reflux may be tried to see if there is a good
response.
