Q: Terrible feeling when trying to speak up! Is it cost by acid reflux? After 10 years of Acid Reflux!

Hi! ten years ago I experienced heartburn, shortage of breath, cold sweat, went to ER they said I might have acid reflux and anxiety disorder. Then went to see GI doctor told me I have Hiatus Hernia and gave me medication since then.
Recently (2months ago), my acid reflux became a big problem which affects every aspect of my life I was very anxious. went to different doctor did a esophagram with barium, the doctor said he didn't see Hiatu Hernia, I said, "REALLY" He said you may still have acid reflux.
My Question is, "Is this Possible?"
Changed my acid medicine few times, now I am back on Nexium 40mg, good until night time. Yesterday night was a HELL to me. During the day, like everybody else, I have sore throat and constantly feeling something is push up my esophagus. More like something is stuck in the esophagus. The Feeling becomes worst when I try to speak up which is required for my job. I am very worry about losing my job now.......
Does anyone experienced the same??? I am scared!
So many people are experiencing the severe acid reflux, how come there are much alternative to treat this problem.......?
I am going to see the GI doctor again soon. What questions do I need to ask my doctor? Do you think I should suggest another endoscopy (Done 3 times, last time is in 2009)?
Thank you for any inputs! I am feeling better after I read people's post and comments! Wish everyone a Good Health!

Hello!

I am glad you are going back to the GI doctor. Is it possible the hernia is sliding and maybe that is why it was not seen on the last barium x ray?

Since you are having symptoms affecting your voice, maybe you need a referral to a Ears, Nose and Throat doctor? An ENT may be able to give you some ideas about soothing your voice. Some of the members of the HealthCentral community have talked about gargling with salt water.

You mentioned anxiety too-we all feel anxious when we are not feeling well and the treatments aren't working. Be sure to tell the doctor about your concerns and questions.

If you feel anxious about many aspects of your life, be sure to tell your primary care doctor. It is a big job having a chronic condition and you need to be at your best to deal with it.

Good luck with your appointment today and PLEASE let us know what you find out.

Thank you, Jan, for your reply! I just saw my GI Doctor yesterday, he told me they found NOTHING on my Esopragram! The discomfort from my throat is the aftermath of the Acid Reflux. Then, he gave me Zantac 150 (I got the generic) for night time.

So now, I take Nexium 40mg in the morning and Zantac 150 at night 2 hours after dinner. He said the discomfort that caused by Acid Reflux could take up to 3 months to heal. If the problem still exists after 2 months, he will perform another scope.

This morning the discomfort in my throat got better, I took a Nexium 40mg and waited 20 mins, then I drank Soy Milk and ate a bread and head to work. On my way, the acid reflux came back and It had been 4 hours after the breakfast. Now the discomfort in my throat came back, plus the acid reflux.

Today is the 8th day I started taking Nexium 40 mg, before I had pantoprazole 40mg doesn't work very well, and Omeprazole doesn't work at all.

Does this sound familiar to Anyone? Please share your advice and suggestion!

***Also, If I take Nexium in the morning and Zantac at night, how is the foods digest? Will I have less Vitamin problems?***
