Q: I had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago, but now I am having (R) lower back pain.

I have chronic back pain from bulging disk and OA. Two weeks ago I have my gallbladder removed and 2 stones removed from the bile duct the following day.  Although this has relieved some of the pain I was having I continue to have pain between my (r) hip and rib cage area.  I am taking Darvocet every 4 hours and now have started taking 2 Advil gelcaps with it just to get some relief from the pain. When it is hurting the only way to get relief is to lie on my left side and go to sleep.   Does anyone have any idea what this could be?  Is it just pain from the surgery or could this be kidney problems.  I had a urinalisis before the gall bladder surgery which was ok.  But the gall bladder scan only showed a few small stones but once the surgeon got it there it was filled completely with stones and was inflammed also.

The combination of issues makes it impossible to easily determine what the pain is coming from. As it's been two weeks since surgery you should check back in with your doctor and let them know about your continued pain. You may need further testing or treatment. Now that the gallbladder and bile duct have been worked on you may be realizing that the pain is coming more from the disk and OA. On the other hand, you wouldn't want to make that assumption if something else is still going on.
