I have been suffering from nonerosive reflux disease for a long time.  Basically my esophagus is open because the ring muscle does not close properly.  This pain has been more pronounced for a few months now.  The gastroenterologist has no idea what it is.  I am going to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy soon.  I am a 55-year-old female in good health otherwise.  I am really scared because I never have had chronic stomach pain before.

I have been experiencing the exact same thing recently. Pain under my ribs on the lower left side. About 6 months ago I had surgery for an abstruction in my small intentines. It seems like I am always having some sort of stomach problems and am very conerned. I'm to the point where I am afraid to eat. But at 5'4 and 118 pound I can't afford to lose weight. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know what your pain is but I have been experiencing something similar.  I too have acid reflux, also a hiatal hernia, and have had my gall bladder removed.  A year ago, I had upper and lower GI scopes and dilation of my esophagus to help with difficulty swallowing.  Last weekend I experienced a bad pain in my left side, almost like someone had punched me.  Since then I have had one day where I couldn't keep food down, I visited my doctor who did xrays to see if my rib was broken, and results came back normal.  I have had twice since then that I had sharp pain in my left side just below my ribs.  I have also had back pain this week, with no reason to have any kind of injury.  I am sure it is related to my other medical problems.  So hopefully, someone can answer the question for both of us.

I see that it has been a while since you posted, but I wondered if you had found out the cause of your symptoms. I'm not a physician and can't diagnose you, but I wondered if any more developed.  How did the tests come out?  I hope all is well, and if you are able to, would you be willing to return to the community here and let us know how it turned out for you?  I'm sure what you have learned would help other community members.

    Best of luck,
