Q: Can an undigested tetracycline dose cause an irritated esophagus

My 13 year old daughter started taking tetracycline for acne about a month ago.  Last week, she fell asleep on the couch, woke to brush her teeth and take the dosage before falling back asleep within minutes.  She woke the next morning feeling nauseated and like the pill didn't digest.  Now, days later, she still feels tightness and discomfort behind her breastbone when she swallows.

Could these symptoms be caused by that (as there seems to be a direct correlation) and what can we do to calm the esophagus?

Hello,

I have heard of something called "pill esophagitis" where a pill gets caught on the esophagus and causes irritation. I don't have any personal experience with this-you might want to check in with the doctor to see about the best way to treat her symptoms.

Maybe another member has some words of wisdom for this concerned mom?
