Q: 6 year old boy with severe acid reflux, been taking meds for 3 wks. how long till he feels better?

He takes (2) 30 mg. prevacid and (2) 20 mg. pepcid a day.  He also recently got over the swine flu.  He is also being tested for celiac disease and pancreatic enzymes.  He was negative for h. pylori.  He complains of nausea and abdominal pain mostly.  He has been on a gluten and lactose free diet for about 8 days now.  It has helped some, but not alot.  Any advice?  He has been out of school for over a month now.

Hello! So sorry your little guy has been dealing with both Swine Flu and reflux! It may take a few more weeks to see if the medication is working since an illness such as the flu can make the reflux symptoms worse for a while longer. Certainly it makes sense to check in with the doctor and make sure the symptoms are not related to the medication and make sure the dosing is correct.
