Q: I have been taking Prevacid for a long time and today found that it had been recalled. Is this a permanent recall? Is there another OTC or generic that will perform as well as Prevacid OTC?
Prevacid is the proton pump inhibitor lansoprazole.
Prilosec, the proton pump inhibitor omeprazole, should be equally effective.
Prevacid otc has not been recalled there was a disruption in production. I've been taking it for a long time too (no longer covered by insurance). I found some on the shelves at out of the way stores and ordered lansoprazole otc (the generic for prevaid) from Canada. They are supposed to start production soon but how soon I don't know.
