Hello!

A painful reflux episode may cause a baby to arch her back in pain. Some babies tilt their head to one side. Sandifer Syndrome is the term used to describe this movement pattern.

If you are seeing your grandbaby arch his/her back frequently or turn the head to one side, it might be necessary to follow up with a neurologist. Sometimes high or low muscle tone can make the neck or back muscles stronger on one side than the other. Sometimes arching is from seizures.

It might be a good idea to go back to the doctor and ask for some more information.

Good luck,
