Hi Cathy,   If the doctor wrote the prescription for 2x a day, you should follow his recommendations. Long term use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like protonix is linked to an increased risk of vitamin and calcium loss, as well as hip fractures. You can read more information from our experts here.   In this case, I would think that the benefits of long term use outweight the risks.
