Sunday, January 10, 2010 gerdsgirl asks

Q: Gerds is non stop

FrownI am expereincing Gerds and find it difficult to eat much of anything and have lost 16 pounds. It started beginning of November, and I have mostly bad days. I am taking acephex, once daily . I was not stressed before Gerds, but this disease has brought me to my knees, and my husband does not understand why I cannot eat, and is upset that I am losing weight. I am 5'2 and weight 108; I use to be 124. I am not dealing with this very well. I honestly feel my husband and I could have very  big fights about this and I do not know what to do.

You've lost over 10% of your body weight in two months. This is very concerning. If you haven't been on the meds very long you may need to give them time to kick in fully but if you've been on them for over a week or two and you aren't getting relief then you need to go back to your doctor with this information. If GERD is indeed the cause of your weight loss and pain then you should have gotten some relief from the medicine.

Any illness can be very difficult on relationships. There is also a great deal of stress for both the one who is ill and the one who cares for them. Hopefully you will soon get some answers from your doctor and less stress for everyone.

best of Luck - Stephanie
