I have been having, what I can only imagine is reflux.  I feel like food does not go down to my esophagus, I am constantly burping, and after I eat burping/regurgiating food.  It gets so bad that i feel like I can't breathe and am inhaling food into my lungs.  Anyways, I am working with my doctor on finding out what is going on, but he ordered bloodwork at my last visit.  My receipt says, "OV EST Level 5".  Can you tell me what kind of bloodwork would be run?

Thanks,

Thanks for your question. You should always ask your doctor any questions you have about treatment, since he or she is the one recommending you for the test.

You may find this overview of GERD diagnosis helpful. The only mention of blood tests is on page 3, where it says that "blood tests for anemia should be performed if bleeding is suspected." However, you should ask your doctor why he recommended one for you.
