Q: I had a very stressfull pregnancy, could this have been a trigger into my sons reflux condition

whilst pregnant my ex partner was a compulsive lier and he would argue his lies as if they was real. His lies stressed me out, which made me feel ill most days and i became an insomniac for over 4 months, I napped through the night but was awake for most of it. We ended up splitting up, but that was after countless arguements on and off from me being 3 months up to giving birth.

I would like to know, does stress in the womb play a part in your child getting reflux, my son is 19months old and was born full term, i dont smoke or drink and i eat healthy.

Dear Tracy, You certainly had a great deal of stress during your pregnancy. While the stress caused you to feel ill, it did not cause your son to have gastroesophageal reflux. Many moms-to-be have indigestion/heartburn and sleep issues. The stress you experienced made the symptoms more noticeable.

I hope you feel safe now and have found ways to manage the stress of the experience. Often, it helps to talk with a counselor or support group. You need to focus your energy on a very active 19 month old boy who needs you very much! Make sure you are getting the assistance you need.

Take care,
