Q: I'm not sure of my diagnosis of having Acid Reflux. See if my description below is typical.

I get a knot in my stomach, then extreme neausea (never vomit), light headedness, cold sweat, and it passes in a few minutes.  Sometime these attacks come often and semi continuous.  Othertimes there will just one or two attacks.  Some are very intense!!!

One sure way to get them started is to eat peanuts.  Will a hole in my lower esophagas cause this?

Hi srprew38,

Your symptoms match some of those described in our Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis guide. The sympoms of diverticulosis and diverticulitis often mimick those of other conditions, so it can be difficult to recognize and diagnose.

Also the "Prevention and Treatment" section of the guide states, "Many doctors previously recommended that people with diverticulosis avoid eating nuts, popcorn and foods with seeds. This restriction has not been proven to prevent diverticulitis."

You can also use our symptom checker tool to find out other possible sources of your symptoms.

I would follow up with your doctor. If the symptoms you are describing have changed or worsened since you were initially diagnosed with acid reflux, your symptoms may be caused by something else.

i had the same symptons, i was diagnosed with acid reflux.  You are right it felt like i wanted to vomit, and my skin was wet and clamy. one day it happened while i was driving  and i let go of the wheel, talk about frightened me to death.  since february of 08 i had the nissan surgery.  i lost 75 pounds, talk about a life altering situation.  last week 08-08, it returned with a vengence. I started to drink one cup of coffee a day and ate shrimp twice that week.  i was told to slowly introduce coffee and foods that caused the acid reflux.  well now i cut all of that out once again. hopefully this will work.
