WOW! You (and a lot of the other's) sound EXACTLY like me. For the last five years I have been "running" on about 10%-20% of my normal energy. I just turned 46 and have been healthy and ENERGETIC all my life. I was diagnosed in 2007 with GERD and have been taking Omeprozole 20 mg on & off (mostly on) ever since then. I try to stop taking it but after a few days I'll end up with my typical 4 AM waking up choking to death.. LITERALLY.. on stomach acid. It's so bad I actually am "drowning" in PURE stomach acid that I've inhaled into my lungs while sleeping. It will just "gush" up and then become aspirated, I bet it's at least 6 ounces. The doctor's have told me I have "permanent scarring" in my lungs from the GERD/aspiration. I have also now been told I have COPD due to the scarring. What REALLY is the worst out of all this is the EXTREME, debilitating fatigue. It's not just being "listless" or yawning type fatigue, I'm talking practically going unconscious. At times, when the fatigue gets really bad I'll end up sleeping for about 14 hours without waking, then TRY to stay awake but end up falling asleep about 2 hours later, sleep for another 4-5 hours, be awake for and hour or two.. then asleep again for another 4-5 hours.. THEN "go to sleep" for the night and sleep ANOTHER 14 hours.. IT'S HORRIBLE to say the least! I can't function at all. I have had every type of test under the sun and saw doctor after doctor and they all just say I "need to be more active.. too much sleep will make you sleepy".. I'm NOT choosing to be like this! If I could be more active I would! I CAN'T! That's the whole problem! I can drink and entire pot of coffee in the morning and go "unconscious" within 2 hours and sleep for 8 hours. What really gets me is that every once in awhile it will 'back off' and I'll start feeling more & more energy to where I actually will say out loud to myself "WOW.. THIS is how it feels to be 'normal'?" But then within a day or two it comes back again. I have tried everything, the only thing that adds up and MAY be causing this is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I joined the CFS association and have started doing a lot of research on it.. when I'm awake enough to.. and I think I might be onto something. To touch back on some of the other symptoms I have as well, I also have a racing and/or pounding heart after eating, have ended up in the ER for "heart palpatations", constantly out of breath, always feel like I'm "in a fog", dizzy all the time, and the thing I hate really bad is HEAT INTOLERANCE! I can't do ANYTHING at all without profuse sweating and it has nothing to do with the ambient temperature. I have to have the A/C set to 70F 24/7, my skin is actually cold to the touch but if try to do anything.. I'm DRENCHED. I get night sweats so bad my hair looks like I just got out of the shower but yet my skin is cool to the touch, even cold sometimes. I have gotten to the point that I've just accepted that I'm probably not going to live much longer. No doctors can seem to figure anything out and I, like you say in your post, am just too tired to try to get help for being too tired.. talk about a "catch 22"
