I just awoke out of a sound sleep to the most intense burning sensation at the back of my throat, mouth, tonsils. It felt like someone had poured acid & hot sauce down my throat. I was in such pain, I considered a possible allergic reaction & maybe a trip to the ER, but I sipped some water & head a piece of dry bread in my mouth & this seemed to ease the pain. Still have odd feeling at back of mouth & throat. Could this be GERD. I've had wet burps before & what I thought was acid reflux, but nothing as severe as tonite.

yes im the same i woke up choking coughing and it hurts ive had this for a while i too drank water ,but it does last for ages i cant get back to sleep ,as im constantly coughing and then i get so hoarse ,my ears too get sore i thought some kind of allergic reaction had started it too , its also down to acid reflux so you should take a trip to the doctors and get this checked out , i also have underactive thyroid too
