Do cancer symptoms come and go?

do cancer symptoms come and go?  Two years ago, right after the birth of our youngest son, I would get pain in my right flank, a little bloatin, severe abdominal pain that would come and go....about a year later they fixed an umbilical hernia.  About two months after that though I began experiencing the same pains again.  It lasts about two months and then goes away except for an occassional pain in my upper right side (right under the rib cage)  Then about a month and a half ago it started again.  The pain begins severe and then ebbs to mild but still there....  I have been to five different drs and still no definitive answer yet???
