I have been having heart palpitations and skipping for the longest time and I easily get tired.  I had episodes also of blacking out.  But my cardiac work-up showed normal results except for mild mitral regurgitation, mild tricuspid regurgitation and relaxation abnormality (which my doctor says are all insignificant).  He thinks it maybe GERD and has given me Nexium to see if I respond to it.  I looked up the symptoms of GERD but I don't experience any of it except for an occasional wet burp.  Is it really possible that GERD is causing my palpitations and skipping?

There is research showing that heart palpitations can decrease when treated with anti-reflux medications. Although the reserach does not appear to demonstrate whether or not it's because it decreases reflux or because the medicine itself helps palpitations. I too suffer palpitations and have bouts despite my meds. It seems at times my whole system goes awry.

All that said, you may want to read about Mitral Valve Prolapse. Here's a link to what they have at Health Central on it. There's also MVPS which is a syndrome associated with it. Many doctors don't think the syndrome is real. But, I have mitral valve prolapse and all of the symptoms associated with MVPS.
