Q: I was awaken with a burning sensation in my throat and had to throw up.

I drank punch and ate 10 crackers about 12:00 am . Went to sleep about 1:00 am. I was awaken about 3:00 am with a burning in my throat and mouth with acid coming up. I proceeded to the bathroom I stated spitting out a mucous like acid in the sink.  After this esisode I beltch and could still feel the acid in my throat.  I chewed a couple of tums. Could this be acid reflux. This has happen before but not as severe.

Thanks for your question. While regurgitation can be a symptom of acid reflux, you should talk to your doctor to make sure it was acid reflux and not something potentially worse. Only he or she can properly diagnose the cause and determine to best to treat it.
