what pill is best for throat burning
have been taking carafate and aciphex and still have throat burning, what treatment might be better?
Hi Judy,
Have you been diagnosed with acid reflux? If you have and you are experiencing burning in the throat, then you might look into some home remedies for relieving the acid reflux. Remember, online sites are great resources for information so that you are able to ask the important questions that will help you manage your healthcare, however they can not take the place of your doctor's solid medical advice.
People with heartburn should first try lifestyle and dietary changes. In one study, 44% of patients who experienced symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) reported improvement after changing their diet. Some suggestions are the following:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->People with heartburn should avoid or reduce consumption of foods and beverages that contain caffeine, chocolate, peppermint, spearmint, and alcohol. Both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee increase acid secretion.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->All carbonated drinks increase the risk for GERD.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Although physicians often advise patients with GERD to cut down on fatty foods, studies are finding no evidence that a low-fat or high-fat meal make any difference in symptom exacerbation. Better studies are needed to confirm this. In any case, as a rule, it is always wise to avoid saturated fats (which are from animal products), and cut down on all fats if one is overweight.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Increasing protein may help strengthen muscles in the muscle valve. Patients should choose low-fat or skim dairy products, poultry, or fish, in such cases.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Whole grain products rich in selenium may have some protective role against dangerous cells changes in Barrett's esophagus.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Patients should have a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, although avoid acidic vegetables and fruits (e.g., oranges, lemons, grapefruit, pineapple**, tomatoes).
One concern I would have especially with the burning throat, is Barrett's esophagus. Barrett's is caused by excessive acid reflux backing up into the esophagus causing damage. When the damage is extensive, the tissue surrounding the damaged aread can change to become precancerous. You should be working with your doctor to treat the GERD.
Dr Eisner, resident expert on Health Central, answered some questions about Barrett's here in a sharepost.
I hope this helps! Take care and stay in touch. Let us know how you are doing!

Hi. I get that burning sensation and taste, in my throat and chest from my acid reflux. I've found that Gaviscon really helps. You can get it from the pharmacy. I suggest the double strength or peppermint one. Can't hurt to try it. Good luck.

Hi,
Vicki
I came across this website. I'm doing some research on GERD and esophogitis. I'm going through same thing as Judy. I was diagnose with esophogitis. I'm taking pantoprazole, and metocolopramide. But the burning on my throat comes and goes.
Sometimes I cannot stand it. I talk to my doctor and was told that if my symptons don't improve that I need to see a specialist. I'm just worry about the cancer part.
I found your respond to Judy helpful. It's hard to avoid the foods I use to eat.
I just want to get better.
Maria
