Thursday, May 19, 2011 Bo asks

Q: I have been coughing for more than 3 years. Some days are bad. Doesn't matter winter or summer. I've seen 2 specialists (ENT and chest). Nothing improved. Since last year, I also had lots of burps

If I don't burp, then my tummy hurts. I feel more like to burp before meals.

A chronic cough can be a sign of reflux and it can be the only sign. My daughter had a chronic cough that we couldn't get rid of with asthma or allergy meds. On a whim I put her on reflux meds and the cough went away. Obviously there are other potential causes as well but a chronic cough that doesn't go away with traditional treatment should be looked into as being caused by reflux.
