Q: Pain radiating from the middle of your back to your chest and up to your jaw. Is it acid reflux?

Is it normal to have pain radiating from the middle of your back to the front and up to your jaw from acid reflux? If I drink milk the pain subsides.

Hi Connie,

It is possible that the pain you are feeling is acid reflux, however as Dr Todd Eisner points out in this sharepost, you need to see your doctor to eliminate the possibility of a cardiac issue. Excerpted from Dr. Eisner's posting:

"Finally, other non-cardiac or non-esophageal causes of chest pain need to be considered as well. It can be very scary having chest pain, as people usually think that it is coming from the heart. Check with your doctor about what the next step in your evaluation should be."

Remember, online sites are great resources for getting the information you need to ask all the right questions. But they should never take the place of your doctors solid medical advice.

Vicki M,

I too have this pain. Feels like a heart attack (I've had one) but I was admitted into the hospital and thoroughly check out by several test and it was not my heart again.  Had the scope ran down my throat and they found some irritation around about the sternum area.  Hard to explain, but it feels like a sharp acidy feeling that of course brings on the thought it might be a heart problem.  With this sharp pain, comes mid to lower back pain and jaw pain.  I have been in the hospital twice and both times the heart was ruled out.  Is there something out there that explains what we're having and what can we do to remedy it.
