Dear Alex,
You really have your hands full with two little ones. Seven months is a long time to be dealing with reflux. I know it will get better but you and the doctor have some work to do to get there.
It might help you and your doctor to discuss the big picture if you keep a logbook or journal of symptoms for a few days. I know you can barely write a shopping list much less take notes! Write down when your son is awake/asleep, fussing, eating, etc. When you approach the doctor, explain what you think is normal baby behavior and what is not. Get feedback from the doctor about the pain issue. Some babies with reflux need a special diet in addition to medication. Some babies need two doses of the Prevacid (PPI), 12 hours apart, 30 minutes before a meal for the best effect. There are more options beyond that. IF the doctor doesn't seem to be able to help you reduce the pain, it might be a good idea to ask for a referral to a gi specialist.
Meanwhile, stay right here for support. There is a rich discussion on the Share Post section of the HealthCentral site. A few moms have gathered there to chat about their babies. You will find much support and acknowledgement for your difficult job as caretaker for a baby with reflux.
Best wishes,
Jan Gambino
