Do I have Gerd?

I woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible burning sensation from my stomach to the inside of my mouth. The pain was the worst I have ever had. It was a burning pain. I hurt so bad I was completely soaked in sweat and starting throwin up and got diarhea. I slept for two days after the pain finally stopped. I had eaten a lot and went straight to bed and I sleep on my stomach. I tried Mylanta and tums and nothing helped. I started choking on this opaque white stuff that hurt so bad when I coughed I thought I would die. It was like glue. I coughed that up off and on all night. This is the second time this has happened in about three years. I had a bleeding ulcer about three years ago and had to go into the hospital for two pints of blood. Are these connected? I have about a medium tollerance for pain and I was wishing I could die.

Hi Shirley,

Probably the best thing you can do at this point is see your doctor about these symptoms. I am not sure they are related to GERD, but I will give you links to information that will help you decide what you need to ask your doctor when you see him/her.

If you think you have GERD, you can read about it here. You can check all of your symptoms here in the symptoms database. Once you have been diagnosed, if you are prescribed any medication, you can read about the medications here in the drugs database. You can read about treatments available here in the treatments database. This article gives you information about foods to avoid and lifestyle changes you can make in the event you are dealing with acid reflux.

I hope this helps somewhat. Make sure you stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
