My 9 year old daughter presented with pains in her abdomen this past summer, and they became severe enough to rule out appendicitis in October. However, she is still not well and still has diarrhea also. An ultrasound revealed an inflammation of her gall bladder, but no other results have come from blood work and stool samples. We are at a loss and an endoscopy has been suggested, but we are not willing to subject her to any more tests, especially one that requires anesthesia. Please help.
Q: In JD is it possible to have cholecysitis, and abdominal pain. My daughter is 9 years old.

Hello Helen,
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD is often associated with heartburn and the sensation of food coming up the food pipe. Does your daughter have either of these symptoms? There may be abdominal pain with GERD but it is not as common in children. Diarrhea is not a symptom of GERD. An endoscopy is used to view the food pipe (esophagus and the stomach) and to take biopsies. I would ask the doctor what he/she is looking for and if there is another way to get the information needed to make a diagnosis. I wonder why her gall bladder is inflammed and if there is a treatment for that? Keep searching for answers-it is hard work but it sounds like your daughter is in a lot of pain.
