Are there any side effects while taking somac while pregnant if you have too?

(I have silent reflux, it does not come diretly up into my mouth) Unfortunatly for me Antacids provide very short relief and once my esophogus is damaged by the acid it takes a long time to heal and ulcers can form and is extrememley painful for about 8 -12 weeks, this is why i would like to know of anyone who has taken PPI's while pregnant from start to finish. I have had scopes ect.....and generally the lining is extremely inflammed at these times.  I take Somac now 40mg but have gone up to 80mg per day when its bad, Losec ,Nexium and Pariet were not really working.

Hi Jacqueline,

Our expert, Tracy Davenport's recent post on pregnancy and acid reflux may help answer your question.

In her post she states that antacids and H2 receptors are both used during pregnancy, but that PPI medications are not typically used to treat reflux during pregnancy.
