Hello! Prevacid is a Proton Pump Inhibitor or PPI medication. It will reduce or eliminate acid in the stomach from the first dose. Your son can still regurgitate or bring up food from his stomach but it should be less irritating because it is not acidic. The medication will need to be in his system a few weeks to heal irritation/ulcers. If you have concerns about this medication or his overall treatment plan, it is best to check in with the doctor and give him/her an update on his condition. Keep in touch and let us know how he is doing! Jan Gambino The Reflux Mom
