Q: Why is prilosec over the counter in US but not Canada

It all has to do with patents, copyrights and what in the US we call the FDA. There may be a patent still on Prilosec in Canada or a similar drug that is keeping the Prilosec from going OTC. Alternately, your government may not have approved it yet. I know for year we could get Claritin OTC in Canada while on vacation but could only get it as a prescription here.
