Q: Is peppermint flavored gum a trigger?

Yes, so is peppermint tea and anything mint. If you do want to chew on gum (it is actually said to help with reflux by producing saliva that cleans the food pipe, and neutralizes stomach acid. I find that Extras classic bubble is gentle enough for me. Stay away from the sour flavors of course.

Hey thanks for the reply.  I do find chewing gum makes me feel a bit better although I guess I need to get away from the peppermint flavored - I really don't like bubble gum flavored - so I'll keep searching.
