Monday, July 07, 2008 Dan asks

Q: What foods will help absorb the acid?

I was diagnosed with acid reflux (AR) in 2004 and got Rx Pepcid AC.  It went away but now in 2008 I feel it's back.  I think it was triggered by me drinking Vodka cranberries for about a week (maybe 2-3 a night).  I usually drink beer.  Does hard alcohol trigger AR?  What foods and drinks are bad for it, and what will help it?  I am now using liquid Mylanta.

Also, I am not drinking any alcohol til it goes away and then maybe 1 beer.

Thanks for your question. Consuming alcohol can help trigger acid reflux. There are several dietary and lifestyle changes people can make to help prevent acid reflux. Consult with your doctor to decide if any of these diet or lifestyle changes will work for you.

Have you tried over-the-counter medicines?
