Q: How do you recommend treatment of GERD when you have problems with 40mg dosages of most proton inhibitors? I need something in addition to the 20mg tablets to ease the mucous, not the heartburn.

If you cannot manage high doses of PPI, you could try taking half in the morning and half in the evening. Or try substituting Ranitodine for the evening dose.

 

However, you may still suffer from excess mucus; reducing the acid content of your stomach doesn't prevent reflux. That's best dealt with by lifestyle changes.
