Hello Layla,

The most common reflux treatments for infants include:

small, frequent feedings

thickening formula/breastmilk

holding upright after a feeding

Using a wedge or elevating the bed for play, changing, sleep

medication

Some babies need a few treatments, others need a combination/all.

You and your doctor will need to spend some time developing a treatment plan that reduces her symptoms. If you and the doctor need additional strategies, it might be a good idea to see a pediatric gastroenterologist.

The arthrogryposis can contribute to the reflux and make the symptoms worse. Are you connected with your local Child Find or Early Intervention Program? Your daughter can be evaluated and if she qualifies, receive occupational and physical therapy. The therapists can help you with positioning and activities to make feeding easier and aid her digestion. I have worked with many little babies in early intervention and it does make a big difference.

Email me privately on this site if you need assistance finding a early intervention program. If you live outside of the United States, the process is a bit different but I can also assist you. Let me know.

Also, you might want to contact Stephanie on this site. She has a LOT of experience with reflux and babies with high/low muscle tone.

Take care and let us know how you are coming along.
