Topics:ear pain with acid reflux

my husband has been treated for a bacterial sinus infection since January.  He still has pain behind his left ear and some nasal congestion on the left side only. Today we went to Univ of MIchigan to a specialist and he said it is a classic case of acid reflux. We were surprised as my husband has an iron stomach and never has indigestion.

Hi Jody Crandall,

Acid Reflux can manifest itself in many different ways. Some people never have heartburn or classic symptoms. One of the ways acid reflux can show up is as asthma and allergy symptoms. You can read an overview about acid reflux and what causes it here. You can read about the symptoms of acid reflux here. If your husband's doctor has prescribed any medication, you can read about the medications here, and depending on the treatment the doctor has prescribed, you can check out treatments here.

Tracy Davenport is a resident expert here and she's written alot about allergy issues and in this article talks about food allergies and GERD. Allergies of any kind can affect the sinus cavities as well as cause asthma symptoms.

I hope this information helps. Please stay in touch and let us know how you and your husband are doing!

Vicki M
