Q: What can I do for immediate relief of acid reflux that is strangling me?

I am currently taking 40 mg of Nexium daily in the AM.  Most of the time my acid reflux is under control, but occasionally I have acid reflux at night that burns my esophagus (even my ears) and I cough until I feel like I am strangling.  Is there anything to do for immediate relief?

Hello! Elevating the head of the bed might help. Try sleeping on a few extra pillows. There are bed lifts and wedges that can be purchased as well.

I suffer from acid reflux.  I was told to eat a couple of slices of apple.  It really does work.. It does for me.

awoke in middle of night with a throat full of burning reflux (had eaten too much icecream the night before), drank baking soda in water...little help with the severe burning throat.  Went on line and read about a tablespoon of brown sugar........took away the burning in my throat immediately.  I'm now a believer....
