Hello Avababy4,

It is worrisome when a six month old baby doesn't like her bottle and will only eat when she is asleep. She is communicating to you that there is a problem with eating. She should be happy to see her bottle and want to grab it so she can bring it to her mouth. Have you asked the doctor about this? If you are feeding her little by little, it is likely she will gain weight. The doctor will not know how much work it takes to feed her and her unhappiness about eating. So first ask the doctor for advice on her diet and whether she needs a special diet or other treatments.

Please let me know what you find out. Also, be sure to search this site for other information about Sleep Feeding.

Let me know if you need assistance finding the information.

Best wishes,

Amy thank you for the response i am a single mother and i am just worried about my baby and no i haven't asked her ped. yet i go see her on friday i just hope she doens't tell me some BS and that everything is fine cause i no its not there is no reason why my baby should get fussy and turn down her bottles i have tried and tried to get her to eat while awake and she will never get down more than 2 ounces before crying and she also arches her back and brings her legs up at first i didn't no what to think i though she just wasn't hungry or i waited too long to feed her (she comes to work with me) but then i thought it was just to noisy at work and she didn't like it cause when i came home she would eat fine then recently she refuses to eat more than 2 ounces at home at first i could rock her and she would eat once she got sleepy but now there is no way so i began just waiting till she fell asleep and fed her and it works i was gettin concerned because she wasn't eating enough in my eyes but now i can get her to do 23-26 oz a day while she is sleeping and she takes her solids fine when she is up i put extra formula in her rice cereal too for an extra oz. or so but im just concerned and everyone is tring to tell me she is fine and whatnot but i no she is not its just concerning me but i am going to be sure to really talk to my ped. on friday would you reccomend taking a video of her awake and trying to eat to show her? i just want to no what info to give her so she doesn't just tell me she is fine and dandy anyways thank you for your advice and i did search the website it made me feel better knowing a lil more about her sleep feedings but thankyou ihope to hear from you soon

Hello. I know this was posted a while back but have you gotten any answers or reasons why your baby only eats while asleep??? My son never seems to be hungry... He has gone for 11 hr stretches in the day without eating and only wakes up once in evening. My son is 3 months now and is doing the same thing. Otherwise, He is happy and healthy and the dr. can seem to figure out why he doesn't eat while he is awake! Especially at 3 months, he should be happy to be eating anything you offer! How is it going for you now???? Please help =( Reply
