Sunday, January 01, 2012 Danielle asks

Q: My 4mo girl woke up blue in the face(nose/mouth/lips/tongue) and hands/feet for about an hour. She was breathing & happy. The doc thinks she has severe reflux.

We wouldn't have been concerned about her based on her behavior...she was just blue! She is probably the happiest baby I've ever seen and doesn't seem to be in any pain. She eats well, and is gaining normal weight. From what I've heard, babies turn blue quickly, and regain their color just as quick... so I'm concerned because she remained blue and was still breathing easily. Does this sound like reflux apnea, or should we be pushing for additional tests or looking somewhere else?

I think you were right to be concerned. I did find an interesting link though that said it can be seen in babies with immature systems.

It makes me wonder though why your doctor is suspecting reflux if this is her only symptom?
