Hello!

Gastroesophageal Reflux or GER is very common condition in infants. GER often causes spit up or vomiting after a meal and wet burps. These episodes are not painful to the baby. Many babies experience GER symptoms in the first few months of life and then outgrow it.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD is a more serious condition caused by a pattern of daily reflux episodes (spit up, vomiting, etc). GERD leads to complications such as breathing/respiratory problems, poor weight gain and damage to the esophagus.

It appears that most babies have GER, a common condition and about 3-5% of infants and children have GERD.

I hope that answers your question.

Best wishes,

Jan Gambino
