Friday, March 05, 2010 concerned wife asks

Q: gasping for air upon waking then coughing and hoarseness

my husband wakes up during night gasping to take in a breath then has a lot of coughing and hoarseness could this be acid reflux or sleep apnea

It is important to have this checked by his doctor. You don't want to assume it's reflux if indeed it is apnea. But, reflux can definitely cause the symptoms you are describing.
