Dear G Gold,
Many patients with GERD experience the sensation of acid coming up the esophagus (food pipe) as far as the throat and even the sinuses. At times, it may be such a small amount, you may not even notice it. If the acid is washing the throat and esophagus over and over again, it may irritate the area and cause the burning sensation you are experiencing.
