Hello!

The symptoms you are describing are not the most common symptoms of GERD. Most adults with GERD experience heartburn.

Try to keep track of how often you are having these symptoms. You and the doctor can figure out if the GERD treatment needs to be changed or if there is another reason for the symptoms such as medication side effect, food allergy, etc. I have heard of patients with a stricture (narrowing of the esophagus) and eosinophilic esophagitis having difficulty swallowing or the sensation of food getting stuck. These conditions are rare so I don't want you to worry. I just want you to check with the doctor about your symptoms.

Take care, Jan Gambino

My sister was having trouble swallowing foods and gagging.  The doctors kept looking down her throat and said all was ok.  Then after she had her hip replaced the blood thinners she was on caused the erosion in her throat to bleed profusely.  Turns out she had erosions on her throat that the doctors were missing.  I suffer from nausea and vomiting.  I am going to the doctor soon.  I believe it is from my acid reflux.  Our father died in 1961 from complications from acid reflux.  It had developed into cancer.  I would suggest keeping a diary of your symptoms and seeing a doctor.
