Could this be Acid reflux that my 10 month old son has, Please help?

Mandy form Louisiana

My son is 10 months old and after feeding him at night he will generally fall asleep. When trying to get out of the recliner to stand up and put him in his bed; he starts to coughing and most of the time will vomit. Is this a sign of Acid Reflux and if so what are my options to help prevent this?

He generally does this only with his bottle at night and sometimes with the first bottle in the morning.

Is there a natural substance that he could take if this is the problem?

Any help would be appreciated......

Hello Mandy, What a cute little boy you have! So sorry to hear he is having some digestive problems. It is worrisome when a baby has symptoms like coughing and vomiting. Does he vomit up the entire meal or is it more like spit up where he loses just a bit of the meal?

I wonder if he is getting any teeth? Sometimes if a lot of teeth are coming in at once, there is way too much saliva. The saliva can cause some minor congestion/cough and even bit of spit up.

If this is a recent problem, keep track of it for a week or two. If it continues, call the doctor and ask if you should schedule an appointment.

If he has reflux, the doctor may suggest giving him a smaller amount at each meal (especially the meals where he has more vomiting) and even thickening the formula with some rice cereal or another thickener.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!when I get up to put him in his bed sometimes it's just a little spit up but when he gets to coughing a good bit he sometimes starts gagging and then its like projectail. Yes he does have a few teeth, 3 on the bottom and 2 on the top. At supper I do feed him in his high chair with very little to get him use to self feeding. At bed time I mix applesauce and rice cereal in a feeder which is the consistency of baby food ( about 3 to 4 oz) then it is wash down with a bottle mix with rice cereal just to make the milk a little thicker than the regular milk he gets during the day. Should I not give him the feeder and just give him the bottle or would you think this is just from him getting teeth? Is there anything I can do to help prevent this, beacuse it is turning into a batttle trying to get him back to sleep after this has happend.
